Together for a safe and welcoming city centre

The City Centre Community Safety Action Plan has been developed by the Auckland Council group.

Continuing to keep the city centre safe is part of our focus on getting the basics right. Doing this well will ensure people want to live, work, visit and invest here.

We are reassured by the downward trend of crime in the city centre. There is still work to do and that’s why we have the Community Safety Action Plan to maximise our efforts. You can read the action plan here.

We hear all the time how our more visible safety presence has made residents and workers feel safer. There’s always more to do, but it’s encouraging the impact we have seen already.

As well as investing directly in people getting out on the street, our work to activate our public spaces, attract more people here and support our residents has a big impact on the vibrancy and feeling of safety.

Safety isn’t something that any one organisation can own alone, but the council has listened to feedback from the community and is taking it seriously.

By working with partner agencies like Police, outreach providers, and resident and business groups on our community safety action plan and its initiatives, we’ve been able to focus our collective efforts on actions that are already making a real difference.

Auckland Council plays a coordination role, ensuring community patrols can work most effectively alongside police, Eke Panuku’s place management team, Council and Auckland Transport maintenance teams, and other services to support the public, report problems and provide reassurance to residents, workers and visitors to city centre.
