Future development around Waiwharariki Anzac Square
- Takapuna
- In Progress
Waiwharariki Anzac Square is a new town square in the heart of Takapuna, connecting the town centre and Takapuna Beach. To continue to help the neighbourhood to thrive, the next phase of urban development is planned around the square.
We’re partnering with Willis Bond, a private developer, to bring a mixture of new shops, offices, homes and eateries to the neighbourhood, so more people can live, work, and play in Takapuna.
What developments are planned around the square?
In 2022, Willis Bond entered into a development agreement with Eke Panuku for a $400m mixed-use development on five sites surrounding Waiwharariki Anzac Square, called Takapuna Central. At this stage, the focus is on the first site, Takapuna Central Apartments.
Over time, the remaining four sites will be developed to include a mix of new homes, offices, shops, and eateries, opening on to Waiwharariki Anzac Square to enhance the new public space.
What other developments have Willis Bond and Eke Panuku worked on?
Eke Panuku and Willis Bond have worked together on several high-quality residential buildings in Wynyard Quarter, these include 132 Halsey, 30 Madden and the multi-award-winning Wynyard Central project alongside Architectus and builders LT McGuinness.
This same team are involved on Takapuna Central Apartments.
What is the Takapuna Central Apartments development?
Located at 40 Anzac Street, Takapuna Central Apartments is a 106 premium apartment development in the heart of Takapuna, next to Waiwharariki Anzac Square.
The site is currently an Auckland Council car park. In March 2018, the council agreed to a “change of use”, allowing the site to now be developed into a high-quality residential building.
We will work in partnership with Willis Bond to achieve agreed development outcomes for the apartment block, such as high sustainability and liveability standards.
Key features of the project include:
- 2,760sqm site, next to Potters Park and Waiwharariki Anzac Square
- The aim is for a Homestar 7 rating for sustainable design.
- High quality, ground floor retail spaces and tenants, to bring activation to the surrounding Takapuna precinct.
- Cultural design will be incorporated into the building.
- Several resident amenity spaces within the building, including a wellness centre, sky terrace and guest suite.
When will marketing start for the Takapuna Central Apartments?
In October 2024, Willis Bond commenced private marketing of the development, offering limited access to their show suite to preview plans and pricing. Marketing and sales to the general public is anticipated to start in early 2025.
