A new connection for Old Papatoetoe
Cambridge Terrace in Papatoetoe will be extended to help streamline travel between Puhinui Road, Stadium Reserve and the town centre.
Commencing in spring 2024, we will extend Cambridge Terrace to create a new connection between Puhinui Road, the Allan Brewster Leisure Centre, Stadium Reserve and the town centre, including New World.
Whether you’re driving, riding a bike, on a mobility scooter, or have a stroller with you, we are looking at ways to improve your journey and help you get to where you need to go in Papatoetoe's town centre.
New Connection: The new road will be an extension of Cambridge Terrace and will continue alongside Stadium Reserve to meet an upgraded Stadium Lane, which connects with Wallace Road. It will serve future housing developments and the upgraded reserve, and for many users will become the main connection to the town centre from Puhinui Road, as a section of Tavern Lane has recently been closed, due to it being on private land and part of the Piko Toetoe development.
Safety: There will be wider footpaths, safe crossing points, a separated cycle lane and a low speed street design to support better access and increased use of Stadium Reserve.
Wai: This project also has a focus on stormwater resilience, helping mitigate flooding through swales and water detention, as well as cleaning runoff.
As per the masterplan, this project will be integrated into the Stadium Reserve upgrade to deliver urban regeneration for Old Papatoetoe.
