Cruise visitors arriving into Auckland this month will have the opportunity to use a free return City Link bus voucher to visit Wynyard Quarter.
Ambassadors will greet visitors as they disembark, explaining what’s on offer in Wynyard Quarter, providing a voucher for a free return trip on the City Link bus and assisting with their journey.
The initiative, a collaboration between Port of Auckland Limited, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, Auckland Transport and Eke Panuku, is designed to ensure visitors don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the vibrant bars and eateries in this unique waterfront destination.
“Our hospitality colleagues in Wynyard Quarter have raised their concerns with us about Cruise visitors not necessarily being familiar enough with our city centre to know how to get to Wynyard Quarter with the bridge closed, “said Eke Panuku GM Assets & Delivery, Marian Webb.
“Using the City Link Bus to visit Wynyard Quarter is just one of the options we’re encouraging locals to use, however we appreciate Cruise visitors may not be interested in purchasing a HOP card for their short stay.
“Quick thinking by a member of the team has seen this voucher initiative come together within a very short space of time and we were delighted to have the support of our council whanāu to make it happen and enhance the experience for these visitors.” she said.
Four vessels will be arriving in Auckland during the remainder of April, delivering thousands of visitors into the city centre for a daytime excursion. With the renowned Aotearoa Art Fair (18-21 April) being held at the Viaduct Events Centre while two of the cruise ships moor in Auckland, this cruise initiative will also help to bring an international audience to New Zealand’s leading contemporary art exposé.
