Ramping up the fun at Panmure Skatepark

Located next to the picturesque Panmure Basin, the skatepark is a popular community spot and home to a wide range of skating groups who use the park on a regular basis. The new works will improve safety for skaters and provide better use of the area.

Eke Panuku has been working with skating groups on the upgrade and their feedback has helped shape the final design.

“We’re thrilled to be able to respond to a real community need and provide new features for the skatepark to bring it up to date,” says Eke Panuku senior project manager Tim Keat.

“This space is really important to our rangatahi and offers them a fun and positive activity.”

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward Councillor Josephine Bartley is pleased to see Eke Panuku persevering with much-needed investment in community spaces despite the financial pressures facing council.

 “It’s very important that we maintain and protect the facilities our youth rely on. Ensuring our rangatahi have somewhere local to go for active hobbies is a great way to give them a sense of connection to the area, and show them they are valued by our community. I’m excited to see continued progress and the upgrade of the rest of the reserve to come.”

Upgrade work is expected to begin in late May and will take around three months to complete. During this time, the skatepark and immediate surrounding area will be closed and fenced off for safety and security reasons.

The northern footpath will have a temporary deviation in place and the carpark will remain open for the community.

The skatepark refurbishment forms part of a wider project, the Lagoon Edge Reserve Upgrade, with more works planned for the Lagoon Edge area, including a wider walking and cycling link along Lagoon Drive, and a redesigned waterfront area with improved seating and grassed areas and new public toilets.
