In shaping spaces for Aucklanders to love we strongly believe we need to harness student passion and ideas in co-creation of places
…and this is how the idea for the Manukau Innovation Challenge emerged.
Through the Manukau Innovation Challenge we are working with The Southern Initiative to bring together students from AUT and MIT, industry leaders in the application of smart city thinking, and innovation and community practitioners to tackle two challenges:
- Movement - People can move around in more ways than one, so let's help them with that.
- Environment - Technology can play a big part in raising awareness on local environmental issues, so let's see what is possible in Manukau.
The challenge is adopting the tried and true approach to start-ups:
Assemble
Where we invite students from each school to hear from relevant speakers to inspire, and start-up practitioners to teach.
The Assemble event for MIT students is on Thursday 11 August from 6.00 to 8.00pm – and you can register here
And we are currently working with AUT to identify a date to introduce the challenge to their students.
Idea Pitch
Where the students gather again, pitch their ideas and then select the best ideas and build the teams.
The Idea Pitch event for MIT students is on Thursday 18 August from 6.00 to 8.00pm – and you can register here
And we are currently working with AUT to identify a date for their students.
Judge
Where each team gets the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a set of judges who are industry leaders from across technology, innovation, community and investment sectors.
This event is being held on Thursday 6 October 2016.
For us at Panuku this project is about working with the talent of students from AUT and MIT, innovation and community specialists and industry leaders in smart city thinking, to help develop ideas that could really make a difference in Manukau.
But we guess the students would also like to know what else is in it for them….so we are also working hard to pull together a package of prizes that will help the winning team or teams take their ideas to the next level…watch this space.
Panuku is proud to bring this project to you in partnership with The Southern Initiative.
