On Thursday 12 December, the Governing Body of Auckland Council agreed to transfer and integrate all of the functions of Eke Panuku - including urban regeneration, property management and marina management - to Auckland Council no later than 1 July 2025.

The mayor has been clear that restructuring the Council Controlled Organisations of Auckland Council was an important priority for him, so this change was not unexpected.

We respect the Governing Body’s decision and await further information from the Chief Executive of Auckland Council, Phil Wilson, on the transition priorities which we will work on collaboratively.

Eke Panuku CEO David Rankin says: "We acknowledge the positive feedback from Councillors and stakeholders during this process. The very clear message from the majority of Councillors was that they wish to maintain momentum in the Eke Panuku regeneration programme and not lose the skills and capability of our staff.

"We are focused on supporting our team through this uncertainty to ensure that the changes maximise opportunities for Auckland, the Council and our people", continues David.

At this stage, Eke Panuku will carry on with this year’s programme and begin to plan for next year’s programme as is normal at this time of year.

We expect more clarity from Auckland Council in February including some indication of changes to structures. This will be followed by consultation with staff in April/May so that the new structure can take effect no later than 1 July.
