The Cavendish Drive and Sharkey Street AUT Link will provide safer and greener ways to walk or cycle between AUT South Campus, MIT, and Manukau Square.

This project is part of the wider Transform Manukau urban regeneration programme and Auckland Transport’s Manukau Cycling Network. It will deliver safer infrastructure, more travel choices, and a welcoming streetscape that supports the growing community and local businesses.

What's planned

The new walking and cycling link will be built along Cavendish Drive, Sharkey Street and Osterley Way, forming an important 'L-shaped' connection through the town centre.

Key features will include:

  • Cycle lane separators for improved safety and comfort

  • Raised pedestrian crossings

  • Upgraded lighting and landscaping

  • Street enhancements to support a more welcoming urban environment

The improvements will make it easier and safer for people of all ages and abilities to move around Manukau without relying on cars.

Key Benefits

  • Safer streets: Protected cycleways, improved crossings and traffic calming will create a more secure environment for everyone.

  • Better connections: Seamless travel between key destinations in Manukau.

  • A greener future: Encouraging walking and cycling to reduce traffic and emissions.

  • Supporting local business: Improved streetscapes to attract more people to the area.
