Opportunity for Franklin foodies
Budding culinary entrepreneurs in Franklin have an amazing opportunity to make their food business dreams come true as applications are being taken for Auckland Council run business incubator The Kitchen Project.
Based at 1 Roulston Street in Pukekohe, the part-time 20-week programme combines learning both in and out of the kitchen. It covers everything from regulations, food safety, and business planning to finance, branding, and marketing, drawing on the vast experience of high-level mentors and partners. It also offers access to dedicated commercial kitchens at subsidised rates.
Project founder and manager Connie Clarkson says “We are so excited to be recruiting our second cohort in this area, especially after the success of our Chef’s Table dinner. The Franklin region is such an abundant food bowl, and we know there are talented and creative people we can help with their food business ideas.”
The program has been running since 2017 and has launched more than 50 new food-related businesses across Auckland. It has an emphasis on culture, healthy and sustainable food business practices and building community wealth.
The criteria are food or beverage concepts for ready-to-eat dishes, snacks or meals - or retail shelf stable product items.
The Kitchen Project is seeking emerging food businesses inspired by good sustainability practises healthy eating, reducing food waste and supporters of local growers and producers. They are also very keen to support food businesses from Pasifika, Māori, indigenous and migrant backgrounds. Applicants should have spent a little time developing their ideas and be at the point where they are seriously wanting to chase their culinary dreams to get to the next level.
