The ability to buy a home in sought-after Hobsonville Point just got easier with news today an Auckland Council-owned site will be part of a new Special Housing Area.
The 20 hectare site, formerly part of the Hobsonville Airforce Base, was designated for housing late last year following previous attempts to have it allocated as a marine precinct.
400 homes are planned for the residential component of the site under the Airfields master plan developed by Panuku Development Auckland.
With confirmation today that the whole site will be a Special Housing Area, at least 10% of those homes in the Airfields development will now be affordable.
Panuku Director of Development Allan Young says it is a significant step for the development.
“With its harbour views, Hobsonville Point has proven extremely popular as a place to live, and it’s important that a broad range of home-buyers get a chance to experience that lifestyle. We’re glad to be able to now offer that with today’s announcement that the Airfields site will be part of a new special housing area.”
Panuku is about to confirm a development partner for construction of the first stage of the Airfields which will see over 85 homes being built on the site’s southern edge.
The development will also include a 6 ha mixed use zone which will include the former Airforce Wasp Hangar which will be refurbished over the next six months.
Work has already started on the Airfields housing site with $8 million of key infrastructure and roads being built to enable the creation of the first superlots.
